English 7

The skills taught in Language Arts must include a focus on the specific rules of grammar, vocabulary, elements of literature, research, and the writing process. All of these enable the student to acquire the ability to read, to speak, to write, and to interpret what is heard and read. Language Arts integrates reading, writing, speaking, and listening in order that the student achieves the highest academic standards within his potential. With these abilities, the student is equipped to communicate and to move to higher levels of academic excellence.

English 8

The expected outcome in the study of English is proficient communication with God and man in order to fulfill His purpose in each individual for the advancement of the Gospel. To obtain this end, students and teachers evaluate truth in great works of literature as they are read and discussed in light of a biblical worldview. Written and spoken communication, as well, is grounded in godly truth as students learn to formulate opinion based in fact and eloquently express their firmly supported ideas. Students in the eighth grade are instructed, at the foundational level, to think and reason logically. Thus, literary, written, and spoken components are developed precept upon precept through instruction and assignments whereby students are challenged to develop a grasp of the gift of language.

AP English Literature and Composition

In addition, these great works of literature are examined with particular respect to literary device and meaning. Written and spoken communication, as well, is grounded in godly truth as students learn to formulate opinion based in fact and eloquently express their firmly supported ideas. Students in the AP Literature and Composition are expected to write, think, and reason logically incorporating their knowledge of literary device, figurative language, and voice. Thus, literary, written, and spoken components are developed and mastered through instruction and assignments whereby students are challenged to develop a grasp of the gift of language.
