Descriptions:

HS Choir

The philosophy of Music in the secondary grades is to provide opportunities to give God glory through praise and worship   We work on developing skills in rhythm, melody, harmony, vocal production, and music theory.  Ultimately the students will recognize music as a gift from God given to express our adoration for Him.  .  Our inspiration comes from Colossians 3:16.

Praise Team

The Worship Team at Covenant Christian School is a group of dedicated, hard working students that love the Lord and have a passion to praise, worship, and exalt the name of Jesus. This special group is selected from the high school choir by invitation only. The Worship Team leads in secondary chapel each week. Responsibilities often include getting to school early, putting away all the sound equipment, and learning new songs. The team consists of singers as well as a worship band.

Art I & II

Secondary art, grades 7 through 12, is designed to encourage visual expression through the use of a wide variety of mediums.  It is the instructor's desire that her students learn to observe and appreciate the beauty that surrounds them as a gift from our wildly creative God and to recognize that He instilled in all of us the desire to create as well.  Students within the secondary art program are provided with opportunities to explore mediums such as acrylics, tempera, watercolor paint, clay sculpture, graphite and color pencils, oil and chalk pastels and photography.  The students will learn techniques to successfully produce art and beyond that they will gain knowledge of art as it relates to World History, global events and diverse cultures.

Yearbook

The purpose of the yearbook is to glorify God as it portrays in words and pictures a yearly history of the CCS community. The yearbook is designed to reflect a student body and faculty who love the Lord and who endeavor to keep Christ central to their lives. Yearbook staff brainstorms and strives to make decisions on cover, design, and theme that mirror Christian beliefs. The yearbook is not intended to tell the annual history through photographs and captions alone, but copy is incorporated that describes, explains, and highlights with scripture what various events meant to the specific CCS group. Yearbook staff learns desktop publishing techniques and basic photography. They exercise integrity in their roles when meeting budgets through selling and designing ads. The primary effort of the yearbook staff is on producing a financially solvent publication that gives glory to God.

CCS Growler

The purpose of The CCS Growler is to glorify God as it covers the “beat” of events at Covenant Christian School on a monthly basis. The newsletter gives a brief overview of the events affecting the student body and the Covenant family as a whole. The newsletter staff applies journalism skills while applying knowledge of Microsoft Word and Publisher. They practice proper etiquette while making contacts with a variety of people to complete their article assignments.

Web Design

Web Design is one of three communications classes intended to provide support for the 3 publishing elements at Covenant:  Yearbook, Newsletter and Website.  Students are shown the elements of a website and learn content and navigation.  Students learn HTML.  Attention to detail is instilled so they may thrive in a programming environment.  Our students are exposed to the "artsy" side of Web Design by learning the elements of the "look and feel" of a website.  Web Design is philosophical, so our students are taught to think critically.  Web Design is also practical in that students learn to understand, navigate and create from an "inside view" giving them an advantage in today's high tech world.
