Descriptions:

Intro Spanish

The students receive ½ year instruction.  They delve into the Hispanic culture and language, learning for the first time that in Spanish all nouns are either masculine or feminine.  (The chair?  Feminine.  The sun?  Masculine.)  The sentences are structured around this concept.  Their units cover pronunciation practices, greetings, numbers, colors, animals, as well as concepts such as masculine and feminine nouns, making plurals of nouns and corresponding articles and adjectives.  They make their own booklets of numbers, colors, and animals and research a Spanish speaking country of their choice.  Music, songs, videos, and games are used in this learning process.

Spanish I

In this class students learn how to communicate in every day settings in the present tense.  The units cover school, house, family, sports, air travel, evangelism, and a visit to the doctor’s office.  They learn through drills, music, songs, skits, charades, and projects such as making a family photo album with descriptions of family members.

Spanish II

After a three week review of the previous year’s material, students begin learning how to communicate in the past and future tenses.  The units cover going to the beach, the department store, a restaurant, camping, daily routines, grocery stores, and mailing letters and packages.  Some of their projects include interviewing their grandparents then writing about their childhood lives and researching famous Hispanics and their contributions to our world.
